On June 18, the Eastern Michigan University Athletic Department announced the winter semester Grade Point Averages for each of the university’s 19 varsity teams, with a combined GPA of 3.087.
Also noteworthy was 13 of the 19 teams compiling a GPA greater than 3.0, the fourth best mark in the school’s history.
For men’s sports, baseball led the way with a 3.417 GPA, while for the women the golf team finished with a 3.673.
28 of EMU’s athletes finished the semester with a 4.0 and both the women’s rowing and soccer teams had five athletes a piece who finished with 4.0s, leading the school in that category.

“The 2012-13 academic year has been record setting for our student-athletes,” Interim Director of
Athletics Dr. Melody Reifel-Werner said in a release issued by the Athletic Department. “Our success is a direct reflection of the student-athletes working to achieve their ultimate goal of graduation.”
“Obviously, our staff and student-athletes take pride in academic success and this latest report proves that the hard work is worth the effort. In addition, out of 2,662 graded classes that our student-athletes were enrolled in during Winter 2013, 2,506 were successfully completed for an unbelievable 94 percent completion rate.”
“Once again, our Student Athlete Support Services office is proud that our student-athletes continue to challenge themselves in the classroom,” Erin Burdis, assistant athletics director for academics, said in the same release.
