Program helps students

Makes job searchers marketable

Eastern Michigan University students attempting to find a job may want to have a look at 1 Degree Hire, a new program designed specifically to help them become more marketable.

Marketing professionals Jordie Kern and Jason Klein developed a 21-day program meant to help job searchers become more appealing to employers. The program includes eBooks and MP3s designed to give the job seeker more information about creating a personal brand. Unlimited access to the program’s materials costs $167, but additional tips are available for free at their website, 1degreehire.com.

This 21-day program isn’t the only service that students can use. EMU’s University Advising and Career Development Center offers currently enrolled EMU students tools to help themselves become more appealing to employers. Along with providing students with connections to employers, UACDC also provides professional networking, job interview practice and a résumé builder at eaglecareers.experience.com.

Many job search sites are helping their clients gain an edge. National sites such as monster.com and careerbuilder.com offer professional advice to visitors along with résumé and interview assistance.

Some sites are more narrowly focused on Michigan college students, including interninmichigan.com.

This site is specifically designed to help students find internship opportunities. The site matches jobs with a seeker using criteria, including location and specific interests. The site also helps opportunity seekers build résumés that help companies meet their ideal employee.
