EMU Provost Schatzel also named executive vice president of Academic and Student Affairs

Eastern Michigan University President Susan Martin announced that EMU Provost Kim Schatzel has been named executive vice president of the university’s Division of Academic and Student Affairs, on Tuesday during the normally scheduled Board of Regents meeting.

In an email to university staff, faculty and students, Martin said the appointment formalizes Schatzel’s role as second in command of the university.

“In January 2012, Provost Schatzel was given the added responsibilities of enrollment management and student affairs. [This] announcement was made in recognition of her leadership, the expanded scope of her responsibilities and the excellent work she has done in leading Eastern Michigan’s academic and student affairs functions,” Martin said in the email.

Schatzel, who has lived in Michigan for 27 years, was named provost Jan. 3, 2012 and came to EMU after serving as the dean of University of Michigan-Dearborn’s College of Business since 2008.
