The Eastern Michigan University Athletic Department announced Tuesday two members of the EMU track team received Mid-American Conference track athlete of the week honors.
Sophomore distance runner Victoria Voronko was given MAC women’s track athlete of the week accolades for the week ending Feb. 10.
Voronko shattered a 13-year-old EMU record over the weekend, finishing the 3,000-meter run in 9 minutes, 23.33 seconds. Voronko’s time is also the second best in MAC history, behind Ohio University’s Juli Accurso’s 9:21 finish.
Junior middle distance runner Grzegorz Kalinowski was given the MAC men’s track athlete of the week honors for the same period. Over the weekend, Kalinowski finished the one-mile run in 4:00:29, coming very close to being the sixth EMU runner ever to finish the event faster than four minutes.
Both track teams will travel to Ann Arbor on Saturday to participate in the Silverston Invitational.
The MAC Championships begin Feb. 22.
