AAA Michigan released a report Feb. 4 that showed gas prices had jumped 31.8 cents, making the state wide average $3.697 per gallon.
“It makes it hard to come to class, especially when you are an upperclassman and only come to campus for one class,” said EMU public relations major Clare McBride.
The average gas price in the Ann Arbor area had increased by 31.9 cents since the beginning of February, and more than 15 cents from this time last year.
The AAA receives this information by surveying 2,800 gas stations every day.
“I would really like them to be cheaper,” EMU junior Bobby Savel said. “I keep my car off as much as possible, and I’ve really been keeping my eye on the gas millage I have been getting. It can be stressful at times.”
The Associated Press reported benchmark crude for March delivery had fallen, and the price of oil was $95.72 per barrel on the morning of Feb. 8.
The Associated Press said the national average for a gallon of gas then was $3.57, which was 27 cents more than January, and 8 cents more than this week the previous year.
They also reported that in New York, during the week of Feb. 8, the average gas price was $3.92 a gallon.
“Being a commuter can be tough with the rise in gas prices,” EMU student Adam Feinberg said. “I have to fill up every week and at $50 a fill up, that’s a lot of lost income.”
