Olivia Fouty to miss remainder of season after knee surgery

Junior forward led team in rebounding

The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team suffered a huge setback Wednesday afternoon when it was announced that junior forward Olivia Fouty would miss the remainder of the 2012-13 campaign.

Fouty has not played since undergoing surgery for a knee injury she suffered before the Dec. 4 game at South Dakota State University.

Fouty will end the season having played in seven games, starting six of them. She averaged 33 minutes per game and 10.7 points per game. She also led the team in rebounding with 8.4 boards per game.

The team announced that Fouty will seek a medical redshirt for the season. If approved, she will gain an extra season of eligibility.

Without senior guard Miranda Tate the Eagles are now down two major players, which moving forward could cause more problems for the 2-10 Eagles.

The team’s next game is Saturday when they take on the Loyola University of Chicago Ramblers. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
