As fall settles in around Eastern Michigan University’s campus, the chill of the season gives more reasons to add new stylish pieces to your potentially already abundant collection. So here are some of the most stylish fall accessories and outerwear I have spotted around campus.
Basic black pea coat: There is a reason why these are a fall staple. The pea coat can be worn in a variety of different ways. The basic black pea coat has been remade so many times that anyone can find one that matches their style and lifestyle. A black pea
coat can serve as a blank canvas for fall accessories.
The cape: The cape is basically an updated variation of the pea coat. Capes and pea coats may have a similar frontal pattern but they do differ greatly. The biggest identifiable difference is the fact that a cape lacks long sleeves. They also have a looser fit at the bottom. Capes are wonderful when the seasons are transitioning from summer to fall.
Scarves: Scarves are a good fall fashion accessory because they are versatile and easy to wear. Each season, tons of designers come out with new styles, making it unlikely for someone not to find one that they like. This applies for both silk and knit scarves. To get the full use out of the versatility of this trend, try to purchase scarves that revolve around your wardrobe. After you purchase your go-to scarves, you can then move onto more elaborate ones. Prints and plaid bring spice to an outfit.
Fingerless gloves: This variation of the original hand warmer has gained a lot of popularity over the past couple years because they offer warmth and function. Before, you could only find fingerless gloves in solid colors. But now, due to the increase in demand, you can find them in a variety of colors and prints. This trend can especially brighten up a look when you wear a solid-colored coat and use the gloves to add a splash of color.
Arm warmers: Arm warmers are more convenient than most people may imagine. When the weather does get colder, it is easy to get overheated. Arm warmers give the wearer the opportunity to be warm or cool. The fall air can go up the sleeves of a coat. To prevent this, arm warmers can be worn. They can also bring warmth to cape wearers.
Pendants and brooches: These accessories simply add bling to the things you already have. You can add pendants and brooches to create a more luxurious effect. This tactic is excellent for those who want to stand out in the crowd.
Statement necklaces and bracelets: These items are used for the same reasons as the pendants and brooches. Create an edgy effect by layering different bracelets around your wrists or the arms of your coat. Slimmer bracelets work well around the wrist and thicker bracelets, such as cuffs, work well on the outside of the coat. Statement necklaces look good when layered on the top of a scarf. If the necklace is long enough, you can even loosely wrap the necklace around the scarf.
There are many different ways to incorporate these items into your wardrobe. Just remember to have fun and be open to experiment with new pieces.
