The Eastern Michigan University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are ready to begin competing Oct. 6 at home in the Jones Natatorium.
The Eagles swimming and diving teams have been consistently good for several years, and their level of success is apparent when you look at both the men’s and women’s trophy cases. The men’s team has won 30 Mid-American Conference titles and the women have won an additional two MAC titles.
The man who will lead these teams in the coming season has become a staple around the pool. Peter Linn has coached both the men’s and women’s teams since 2004 and was the coach of the men’s team for several years prior. Linn has been able to turn both teams into perennial MAC championship contenders.
A new season brings the expectations that are built upon that past record. For EMU, this means the expectation that they can capture more MAC titles.
“No matter how successful we may have been in a previous year, the student-athletes are always a new combination but the constant we aim for is the level of determination, commitment and discipline that helped us to succeed in the past,” Linn said.
Linn gave credit to his staff when asked about the difficulties of running both the men’s and women’s teams.
“I have a great staff and it is a huge amount of work, but I love swimming and enjoy every minute of being on the pool deck,” he said.
Linn said his staff will help lead the Eagles in their continued success for the coming season.
“We have a terrific group of athletes and we are looking forward to both a challenging and fun season,” he said.
Students interested in attending a meet can find schedule information at www.emueagles.com.
“Just show up. We love having a big crowd and the admission is free,” Linn said.
