The Eastern Michigan University baseball team lost 10-9 in its series finale with the Ohio Bobcats on Sunday.
The best-of-three series was tied at one coming into the game, but the Eagles could not hold on for the victory despite scoring four runs in the first inning.
Senior first baseman Ben Magsig went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored for the Eagles (10-17, 3-3 Mid-American Conference). Senior catcher Matt Hitt was 1-for-5 and brought in three RBI in the first off a base-clearing double.
Junior right-handed pitcher Joe Battistelli (1-4) was credited with the loss after giving up four earned runs on 10 hits in 4-1/3 innings.
Jensen Painter led the way for the Bobcats (13-14, 3-3 MAC), going 2-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored.
Saturday, the Eagles lost 7-2.
Senior centerfielder Bo Kinder went 1-for-4 with one RBI, and junior right-handed pitcher Neil Butara (2-2) picked up the loss after going seven innings and giving up two earned runs on five hits.
On Friday, the Eagles won the first game in the series 9-7.
Magsig led the Eagles again, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one earned run. Junior right-handed pitcher Steve Weber (2-3) got the win after 6 2/3 innings. He gave up five earned runs on 10 hits and had a season-high seven strikeouts.
The Eagles will be back in action when they return home for a game against Michigan State at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
