Valukas to speak at EMU Ethos Week

Prominent lawyer Anton Valukas will be the keynote speaker for Eastern Michigan University College of Business’ sixth annual Ethos Week.

Valukas acted as the court-appointed examiner in the Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc.’s bankruptcy case.
Following his work as examiner, Valukas was named “Person of the Year” by Chicago Lawyer magazine.

As quoted in the corresponding article, Illinois Supreme Court Justice Anne M. Burke described Valukas as, “a living hero whom we should all emulate.”

Burke said Valukas “has always lived by a strong code of ethics, and he has spent his career advancing the values of honesty, integrity and justice for the good of all.”

Valukas is chairman of the law firm Jenner & Block.

According to Jenner & Block’s website, Valukas “focuses on major and civil white collar criminal
litigation, representing individuals and corporations in contested proceedings.”

He received his bachelor’s from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis., in 1965, and his juris doctor from Northwestern University School of Law in 1968.

Valukas will speak at the Ethos Week luncheon at 1:40 p.m. on March 16 in the Student Center Ballroom. Tickets are $5 for students and $35 for non-students.
