Keeping track of the different professional, social and creative events on Eastern Michigan University’s campus became possible when a new calendar went online a couple of weeks ago.
Creators Darcy Gifford of the Division of Communications and Vicki Patton of the Student Leader Group and Disability Resource Center hope to make it easier for students and faculty to view the academic and event calendars simultaneously.
“Instead of having several different calendars on my.emich, we combined them all to view everything at once,” Patton said.
The calendar features a space for adding events with a description, date, time and place that goes through the communications office and appears on the website if approved.
“The calendar is still in the beginning stages, so we want to change it and make it our own,” Patton said.
Developing the new calendar has been the main focus for Patton while participating in the Student Leader Group.
“I gave the project a student perspective on the different features. I spoke to several different people that wanted a single place to check events online,” she said.
The creators of the new online calendar for the university hope to get feedback about the feature so it can be
improved. Patton, who will be graduating this April, hopes users will notice the survey and make it more possible for the calendar to be tailored for EMU students and faculty.
Website visitors can access the calendar by clicking on the link in the top of the home page of my.emich. Those who would like to add an event to the calendar can email calendar_events@emich.edu.
