EMU faces Kent State Saturday

The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team will take on the Kent State Golden Flashes at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Convocation Center.

The Eagles have had an excellent season, with a record of 16-7. They score an average of 69.7 points per game and shoot an average of 41 percent from the field goal range. The team’s free throw percentage is 69 percent.

With rebounding powerhouses like Paige Redditt and Olivia Fouty, the Eagles grab an average of 41.9 rebounds per game.

The Eagles are on a four-game winning streak, and to continue that trend all the players will have to work to the best of their ability to defeat the Golden Flashes. Tavelyn James and Natachia Watkins will have to shoot well and feed it to Redditt and Fouty in the paint. Redditt and Fouty will also have to box out and get as many offensive and defensive rebounds as they can.

The Kent State Golden Flashes have an overall record of 5-15. They have been on a three-game losing streak since their last win against Western Michigan on Jan. 25.

The Golden Flashes average around 57.7 points per game, shoot 40 percent from the field and pull down an average of 32.5 rebounds per game.

They don’t trail Eastern much when it comes to shooting in the field goal range and their free throw percentage is higher than the Eagles, at 71 percent.

High-scoring and top-rebounding players on the Golden Flashes’ squad are Trisha Krewson and Diamon Brekford, who grab an average of five rebounds per game and
score an average of 11 points each.

The Golden Flashes have good shooting percentages, but are losing a lot of their games. In order to defeat the Eagles, KSU will have to stay focused and attempt to out-shoot its opponents, but also box out Fouty and Redditt to bring down rebounds.

If they work hard and are on their game, the Golden Flashes have a chance to win, however the Eagles have an advantage playing on their home court.

Both teams have great stats to back them up, so it all comes down to which team will out-rebound and out-score the other in this game.

The Eagles will take on the Golden Flashes in the first game of a double-header at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the Convocation Center. The men will take on Ohio University at 4:30 p.m.
