Eagles prepare for 'Big Meet' in Grand Valley

After a good showing in the Findlay Open on Feb. 3 in Findlay, Ohio and the Meyo Invite in South Bend, Indiana, the Eastern Michigan University men’s track and field team heads to Allendale Michigan to compete in the Grand Valley State University’s Big Meet. The Big Meet is on Feb. 10 and 11.

Michigan State, Grand Valley State, Purdue University, Oakland University, Indiana Tech, Spring Arbor University, Adrian College and many more will compete in the Big Meet this year, and more than 1,000 student athletes will participate. EMU will be competing in the GVSU Big Meet for the third year in a row. They will be looking to perform as well as they did last year, with over ten top-ten finishes in multiple events.

Eagle runners Fontaine Holland, Pedro Delgado, Jordan Walker, Nick Twinning, David Papenhangan, Dylan Stites, Anthony Bradley, Ian Hancke, Cam Bolton and Grzegorz Kalinowski will need to carry their momentum from the Meyo Invitation and Findlay Open into the Big Meet.

Holland had two new personal records after competing in the Findlay Open. He finished second in the 200-meter and 400-meter dash. His times were 23.16 in the 200 and 51.31 in the 400.

Grzegorz Kalinowski finished with the second-best time in Eagle history in the
1,000-meter run at the Meyo Invitational. Kalinowski completed the distance with a time of 2:22.76.

Ian Hancke finished first in the 3,000-meter run at the Meyo Invitational, with a time of 8:24.86.

Nick Twinning and Jordan Walker finished first and second in the 600-meter run at the Findlay Classic, Pedro Delgado finished first in the 60-meter dash, Dylan Stites took first place in the pole vault. Anthony Bradley placed first in the triple jump, and Aaron Davis finished second right behind Bradley.

Cam Bolton took third in 200-meter dash at Meyo invitational.

The Big Meet will be Feb. 10 and 11, when the Eagles will be looking to improve on last year’s performance.
