Eastern Michigan University held a private art exhibit Friday night for people who have made donations to the EMU foundation.
The exhibit featured student submissions to the art department’s annual juried art show and art by the faculty.
Tom Stevick, EMU’s vice president of advancement and executive director of the EMU foundation, said this has been EMU’s most successful year for fundraising.
“In fiscal year 2012, we’re having the best year ever in the university’s history as
far as fundraising,” Stevick said. “We will reach the $9 million mark in a few weeks and then we’ll have several more months left in the fiscal year. That’ll put us above
the best year we’ve ever had.”
Stevick said EMU holds similar private events throughout the year to show its appreciation to its donors.
“We have two or three donor stewardship events per year, in which we invite all of the university donors to campus to experience some of the fine arts… In this case we’re having them here for the juried art show of the students and also the faculty art show,” Stevick said.
“It’s an opportunity to showcase our student talent and the talents of our faculty to the folks who support the university by their generous donations… We just want to show our appreciation to them.”
President Martin was present and gave a brief speech to the donors.
“We’re delighted and very proud of our historic art program,” Martin said.
The event was catered with hors d’oeuvres and a free wine bar.
