It was a successful weekend for Eastern Michigan University’s men’s swimming and diving team, defeating Miami (Ohio) 176.5-123.5.
With this win the team earned its 60th consecutive Mid-American Conference dual meet victory and improved to 4-3 on the season.
“Preparing for road meets is a bit of a challenge,” Michael Kinross said. “As a team, preparing for away meets is only slightly different than preparing for home meets.
The biggest thing we emphasize, especially when we have to get straight off the bus and compete, is making sure we are as fresh and mentally ready as possible. This usually means more warming up then we might do for a home meet and making sure we are psyched up and ready to swim fast on the road.”
The Eagles were successful on the road, winning 11-of-16 events. EMU took the top two spots in the 200 medley relay event, taking first was the team of Jacob Hanson, Michael Swain, Michael Kinross,and Matt Zavislak with a time of 1:33.44.
Taking second was the team of Justin Duong, Mike Fisher, Tom Coates and Gus Everson with (1:35.65).
In the 1,000 freestyle Troy Esentan took first place with the day’s best time (9:36.00) followed by Franco Petrone in second place (9:40.80). In third place was Gilles Renard (9:47.51).
Diving was represented by Andrew Saunders, who placed second in the 3-meter dive, and Jeffrey Craig took second in the 1-meter dive.
The Eagles’ next meet will have them competing in the Ohio State Winter Invitational
in Columbus, Ohio, Saturday and Sunday.
