It was the end of a four-game winning streak for the Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team as it fell to Bowling Green State University on the road Sunday by a score of 70-54.
The game got off to a rough start for the Eagles as BGSU took a quick lead with a three-pointer with 19:48 on the clock. From that point on, they slowly began building their lead. The Eagles tied the score with 16:59 in the first half, but the Falcons
broke away. This time the Eagles couldn’t catch up.
With 4:33 left to go in the first, the Falcons went on a 10-0 run to make the score 41-23. The Eagles were able to make one more shot, making the score at halftime, 41-25. Tavelyn James had 12 points at the half and Natacia Watkins had eight. Paige Redditt grabbed seven rebounds.
The second half went the same way with scoring in favor of the Falcons. They had built up a lead, and did not give it up. With 6:36 to play, BGSU went on a 7-0 run to go up 65-47.
The lead scorer for the Eagles was James with 29. Watkins had 10 points and seven rebounds and Redditt scored seven and grabbed 14 rebounds.
The Falcons’ Alexis Rogers scored 30 and grabbed nine rebounds. Chrissy Steffen scored 11.
The Falcons shot 61.5 percent in the first half (51 percent overall). The Eagles shot 27.3 percent from the field.
The Falcons used their three-point shooting ability to their advantage as they knocked down 50 percent in the first half.
They made 7-of-15 for the game.
The Eagles out-rebounded the Falcons 39-33 and caused 21 turnovers. The Eagles were able to score 12 points off of rebounds.
The Eagles travel to take on the Buffalo Bulls at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
