EMU hosts Central Michigan Friday

The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team will return for its first home match of 2012 to face Central Michigan University at 7 p.m. Friday in the Convocation Center.

EMU (7-3) will look to continue its momentum after its performance at the Storm Open, which resulted in five Eagles placing in top rankings. The Eagles will compete without key heavyweight David Box, who is recovering from the injury he suffered at the Open

CMU (10-2) will be trying to get back on track after placing 11th during the Midlands
Championships. The Chippewas had a five-match winning streak prior to the Midland Championships.

Prior to the Storm Open, the Eagles held a 2-2 record going into the Pittsburg Duals, and had several bright spots during the course of the matches. Junior Aaron Sulzer went 4-0 during the tournament along with four other Eagles who finished the day with winning records, each of which will wrestle against the Chippewas.

The Chippewas were on a dominant winning streak before the Midlands Championships with a 3-0 record. During the Bison Duals, five Chippewa wrestlers put up undefeated performances, including No.8 ranked, 184-pound Ben Bennett, who placed sixth during the Midland Championships.

The Chippewas come into the match with eight wrestlers placed in the top Mid-American Conference rankings within their respective weight classes. CMU as a team is ranked second in the MAC.

The Eagles rank third in the MAC, with seven Eagles ranking in their weight classes, including Senior Andrew Novak, first in the 133-pound weight class.

Following the match, the Eagles will host three days of the EMU Duals at Bowen Field House beginning Sunday.
