It has been three weeks since Eastern Michigan’s men’s track and field team’s first meet at the Grand Valley Holiday Open in Allendale, Mich., on Dec. 16.
The whole team wasn’t there to participate, but despite that, the Eagles did well. There were plenty of top-five finishes during the open. Junior Jay Saunders finished top in the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash.
There were other top-five finishes from the Eagles, one from freshman Levi Selig, who placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.50 seconds. Sophomore Max Babits finished fourth in the pole vault (4.90 meters) and freshman Keith Williams finished fourth in the shot put (14.81 meters).
EMU will be at the Akron Opener in Akron, Ohio, on Friday. It will be the first time the Eagles have been in action in three weeks. They might be rusty, but they should do as well as they did in the Grand Valley Holiday Open.
This will be the Eagles’ first time attending the Akron Open. The Eagles will face three other schools:
Robert Morris University, the University of Akron and Youngstown State University. Expect team captain, Saunders, to do well after taking a couple of top-five finishes in the Grand Valley Holiday Open.
Despite the three-week break, you can expect the Eagles to take home a couple of top-five finishes and perform on the same level, if not better than they did at Grand Valley.
