Salsa Grille serves up flavor

There’s a new place in our Student Center in the place of the Taco Bell and KFC. If you haven’t been there yet I fully recommend you check it out – it’s called Salsa Grille. While you might be skeptical because this isn’t the old Taco Bell you knew and loved – or at least tolerated – give this place a chance. I did and was happily surprised.

Between the hours of 10:30 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays and 1 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, you’ll be sure to find something tasty here. Not only is it a healthier alternative to Taco Bell,
it’s personalized orders, and quick as well.

With all the recipes made in the shop, the items on the menu are always hot, fresh and ready to go. While the Grille has a spectacular regular menu, it also features specials differing every month so students are able to see its wide selection of entrees.

This month’s special would be the “Sexy Beef Fajitas” for $6.99. When you order your “Sexy Beef Fajita,” you’ll also get a complementary side of chips, salsa and a large beverage.

What are “Sexy Beef Fajitas,” you might ask? It includes beef, red and green peppers and anything else you could think of, all wrapped up in a flour or corn tortilla or in a bowl without the tortilla. When you order your “Sexy Beef Fajita,” you’ll also get a complimentary side of chips, salsa and a large beverage.

As a customizable Mexican fiesta bar, it ranges from tacos to nachos to those sexy fajitas. You can add nearly everything with no extra charge, even sour cream. If you already eat there, what you might not know is that there is a special hidden item as well. The price of all these great menu options range from $5.49 to $5.99, and you could make it a meal for just $1.99 more.

Sopapillas, the hidden treasure of Salsa Grille as described by many, is a great way to end any meal at Salsa Grille. They are deep-fried pita chips with cinnamon and honey for only 99 cents. If you haven’t tried them yet, do so; it’s a must-try experience.

If you ask me what my favorite item off the menu is, I’ll tell you what I get every time I eat there. I get the tacos filled with chicken, rice and queso plus a side of chips with queso over top. While a little messy overall, you’ll be glad you gave this a chance.

If you don’t believe me, take fellow student, Lauren Wilfong.

“I had the chicken soft tacos, and it was pretty good,” she said. “It’s a step up from Taco Bell but not quite Chipotle. I was impressed.”

While also very customer friendly, you’ll get great reactions out of the employees who work there because they enjoy it as well. The management is always working hard to improve your experience.

“I love working with my coworkers – it’s a salsa night every night,” employee Rachel Fransioli said.

Kept clean, the employees take care of how they keep their place and their food.

If you’re a student on campus, the best part about Salsa Grille might be the fact you can utilize your meal
plan, flex dollars, Eagle Express or advantage plan at any time, as well as cash or credit. It’s a great place to catch a quick bite, lunch or dinner, so be sure to stop by next time you’re hungry.
