The Eastern Michigan Eagles men’s basketball team continued its road swing with a 61-36 loss against the Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday.
This was the fourth in a row on the road for the Eagles, and they are 4-6 with their fifth straight loss. The Boilermakers are 9-2.
Derek Thompson led the game and Eagles with 15 points and also added seven rebounds while Jamell Harris chipped in eight points and eight rebounds.
The Boilermakers were led by Robbie Humel, who had 13 points and eight rebounds.
The first half started with the Boilermakers jumping out to an 8-0 lead, but the Eagles fought and kept it a close, with the score at halftime being 29-22.
The shooting woes continued for the Eagles as they shot 22 percent from the field in the second half.
The Boilermakers seemed to have the advantage throughout most of the game as they took advantage of mistakes and forced 16 turnovers, which led to 14 points.
Purdue also had the edge in rebounding 39-30 even though Eastern had the advantage going into halftime. The Boilermakers had 17 second-chance points while the Eagles had four.
Purdue seemed to be more opportunistic, and that’s why they were able to get the victory.
On Friday, the Eagles lost to the Drake Bulldogs 66-53.
Darrell Lampley led the team with 20 points and Thompson added 18. The Eagles shot 40 percent from the field and 50 percent from the three-point line, but it wasn’t enough to take down the Bulldogs as they had three players in double figures.
For Drake, Ben Simons had 16 points and Jordan Clarke had 13.
