Win makes Eagles eligible for bowl

On Saturday, Eastern Michigan University will visit the Kent State Golden Flashes before it travels to Northern Illinois the day after Thanksgiving for the season finale.

The last time EMU (6-4, 4-2 Mid-American Conferenc e) and KSU (4-6, 3-3 MAC) met was in 2009, and Kent State won 28-6 in Ypsilanti. The NIU game will begin at 11 a.m. and be shown on ESPNU.

Eastern is coming off a victory against Mid-American Conference foe Buffalo while the Golden Flashes are coming off a victory against in state rival Akron.

The Eagles are looking for their first 7-win season since 1989, and with a win, the Eagles would be bowl eligible for the first time since 1995.

The Eagles seem to improve in each game they play. In last week’s outing, the Eagles had 413 total yards of offense, and the passing game looked spectacular as quarterback Alex Gillett passed for a season high 234 yards and four touchdowns. Gillett also added 89 yards rushing.

EMU has played 3-straight home games. The Eagles will go on the road, where they are 1-3 this season. They come into the game third in the MAC in rushing yards. Kent State is giving up 331 yards of total offense so EMU shouldn’t have too much trouble moving the ball.

Eastern has three players who have more than 500 rushing yards. Alex Gillett has 654, Javonti Greene has 618, and Dominique White has 579. The Eagles have a lot of weapons so it will be interesting to see how well they do against the Kent State defense.

The Eagles are a 6-4 team, and if they play to their strength, which is running, then they should be able to take down Kent State.

Kent State is coming off a three-game winning streak and is looking to finish the season at .500 if it can win these last two games. The Golden Flashes are coming off a game where they dominated in state rival Akron.

The Golden Flashes accumulated 380 total yards of offense while only giving up 223. Running back Trayion Durham led Kent State with 107 yards and two touchdowns. Although The Golden Flashes had a great performance last week they come into this game last in the MAC in total offense. They are only averaging 16.1 points, and if they want to keep this game close, some points are going to have to be
put on the board.

A key player to watch out for is quarterback Spencer Keith. He has been playing well during this three-game win streak and if the Golden Flashes want to win then he will have to refrain from mistakes and get his team into the end zone.
