The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team was on the road this weekend for its last regular-season match. The Eagles beat the Cardinals of Ball State on Thursday, 25-21, 23-25, 25-18 and 28-26. They lost Saturday to Toledo, 25-23, 22-25, 26-28 and 13-15.
The Eagles finish the regular season 21-10 and are going into the Mid-American Conference as the fifth seed with a record of 9-7.
Rachel Iaquaniello, Erin Short, Kristen Baker and Paige Roback led the Eagles in the first match. Iaquaniello led the team in kills with 22, and chipped in 17 digs; in doing so she earned her 12th double-double of the season. Short had 11 kills on the night as well as seven digs and the highest attack percentage of .357. Baker added to the offense as well with 12 kills;
Roback added 11 kills and three digs, respectively.
Defensively, the Eagles’ key contributors were Ashley Mason, Cassie Sowers and Haley Stein. Mason led the way defensively with 50 assists, 11 digs. Stein had 27 digs and Sowers chipped in 14.
In the match against the Rockets, Iaquaniello and Baker led the way for the Eagles once again. Iaquaniello contributed 17 kills and Baker had 16 kills while maintaining a .556 attack percentage.
Mason and Stein had a successful match, too. Mason accumulated 52 assists and 16 digs and Stein added 15 digs. The Eagles as a team had a combined hitting percentage of .301.
The Eagles’ next match is the beginning of the MAC play. The tournament takes place Nov. 18-20 in Geneva, Ohio. Opponents, dates and times have yet to be determined.
