The Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team will play the University of Arkansas-Little Rock at 7 p.m. Friday at the Convocation Center.
The Eagles (1-1) are looking to rebound against Arkansas-Little Rock (2-1) after suffering a 66-49 loss to Texas Southern on Tuesday. The Trojans will be looking for their third win in a row against EMU after they beat the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis Jaguars (1-1) on Tuesday.
Arkansas-Little Rock’s win against IUPUI made the Trojan’s coach, Steven Shields, the all-time winningest coach in the program’s history with 134 wins, passing Mike Newell of the 1984-1990 teams.
EMU, despite the 1-1 record, is looking good under new coach Rob Murphy. Eastern will be looking for
its senior leadership throughout the season, especially from leading scorer senior Darrell Lampley, who is averaging 13.5 points.
The Trojans will be looking for a lot of scoring from sophomore Chuck Guy to extend their two-game winning streak this season.
After Arkansas-Little Rock’s win against IUPUI coach Steven Shields said: “I thought it was a good team effort tonight across the board. We did a good job rebounding the ball and getting to the foul line. We didn’t defend as well as we would have liked for the course of the game, but that is a very good offensive team we played.”
Guy had a career-high 21 points against IUPUI. If Eastern Michigan is going to get a win against
Arkansas-Little Rock it will need to shut down Guy and be able to hit the three-point shot.
Eastern needs to play better defense throughout the next game and the rest of the season. EMU also needs to stay consistent on rebounding. The Eagles will be looking for scoring from Lampley and also from the second leading scorer on the team, junior Derek Thompson.
After the game against Arkansas-Little Rock, EMU will play IUPUI before going up against the Michigan State Spartans (0-2) on Saturday Nov. 27.
