The Eastern Michigan University women’s golf team finished the fall portion of its schedule and will continue in the winter of 2012. The Eagles ended the season with four top-five finishes and won two tournaments.

The Mary Fossum Invitational was the only tournament the Eagles did not finish in the top five as they were eighth out of 12 with a score of 942. Senior Shannon Warner was the top Eagle as she finished 10th in the tournament. Michigan State won the tournament with 892 strokes.

The first tournament win came in the Nittany Lion Invitational. The Eagles posted 597 strokes before the tournament was cut short in the third round due to unplayable conditions.

The Eagles would see three players finish in the top 15 and two in the top three. Sarah Johnson and Shannon Warner tied for third with scores of 148. The two-day total the Eagles scored ranks second best in school history.

The Eagles would come in third out of 14 teams with a score of 622 in their third tournament of the season; the Mid-American Conference preview. That tournament would see two EMU players finish in the top 15 as Sarah Johnson and Alyssa Kwon would finish in 12th with 154. The top 15 finish would be Kwon’s first of the season.

Toledo won the tournament after a one-hole playoff with Akron.

The Hoosier Fall preview would be the Eagles’ second tournament victory. Eastern
would shoot a 912, beating Notre Dame by one stroke. The Eagles had four players finish in the top 15. Johnson was the top Eagle as she came in third with 224.

Shannon Warner came in eighth place with 227. Rushda Mallick and Meredith Fairbairn would come in 11th.

The last tournament of the fall schedule would be the Pat Bradley Invitational, where the Eagles finished as runner ups to Florida International. EMU would finish with 895 strokes.

Three EMU players ended in the top ten. Fairbairn came in fourth with 220, which would be the first top-ten finish in her career. Kwon finished eighth with 223 and Johnson came in ninth with 224.

The Eagles pick up the season with the Claud Jacobs Challenge Feb. 19 in Victoria, Texas.
