The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team concluded its New York road trip with a 65-53 win against Canisius Sunday to extend its winning streak to three.
Tavelyn James contributed 14 points and three assists for EMU. Desyree Wilson followed with 13 points and four steals. But it was Natachia Wilkins that came off the bench in the second half to lead the Eagles with 21 points.
Canisius sophomore guard Jen Morabito led the way for the Golden Griffins with 12 points.
EMU (5-1) was coming off a close 54-52 victory on the road against Cornell on Friday. James scored 16 and Paige Redditt contributed 11.
Canisius (1-3) got its first win of the season against Maryland-Eastern Shore on Monday.
Redditt got the scoring going with two point field goal and a free throw to put EMU in the lead 3-0. Eastern built a 7-2 lead almost four minutes into the game but Canisius rallied back to take an 8-7 lead, and from there, the game went back and forth.
EMU came back to lead 22-21 with less than three minutes left in the half, but Canisius would retake the lead at halftime 25-23.
Eastern scored 42 second-half points and held Canisius to 28. It was James who scored the go-ahead layup to put the Eagles up for good four minutes into the final half.
EMU travels to East Lansing to play against Michigan State (5-2) on Saturday. The next home game will be against Missouri-Kansas City (6-1) at 7 p.m. Friday Dec. 9.
