Volleyball wins fourth straight

The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team won its fourth straight match and made its record 17-6 with victories against the Bowling Green Falcons and the Miami Red Hawks during the weekend.

Saturday, the visiting Eagles defeated the Falcons, 25-22, 25-18 and 25-16. The Eagles had many key players. Rachel Iaquaniello was a driving force in the opening set for the Eagles with a .467 attack percentage. Ashley Mason contributed 11 assists for EMU. Kristen Baker had 11 kills for a .474 hitting percentage along with three blocks while Haley Stein chipped in with a team-high 14 kills.

The second set had many Eagles (5-3 MAC) contributing to the victory. Iaquaniello, Paige Roback and Megan Crawshaw each had four kills while Baker added three kills. Mason had 13 assists in the set.
Baker and Iaquaniello were key again in the third set. Baker chipped in four kills and Iaquaniello added three to help the Eagles win the final set.

The Eagles outplayed the Falcons (16-5, 3-5 MAC) offensively with 41 kills to 37. EMU also had a greater hitting percentage (.318) and allowed the Falcons to just a .170 hitting percentage.
The Falcons were led by Danielle Tonyan, who contributed 12 kills, one assist and one dig, and Laura
Avila had in 11 digs and 23 assists.

Friday, the Eagles won at Miami (12-10, 3-5 MAC), 25-25, 25-18 and 25-23. The Eagles were led by Baker and Mason. Mason contributed 34 assists and Baker had a .750 attack percentage with 13 kills. Haley Stein led the Eagles defensively with 17 digs. Iaquaniello had 11 kills.

The Eagles have a stretch of home appearances with five in a row.

They will take on the Bulls of Buffalo (9-13, 2-6 MAC) next. It starts at 7 p.m. Friday at the Convocation Center.
