Swimming gets nearer to openers

The Eastern Michigan men’s swim team opened up the season with its Green and White Meet Saturday.

“I am very excited to get the season off and running with a healthy team,” coach Peter Linn said. “We have had several tough years with this, and it has been difficult to field the best team we could, but I am optimistic that we are off to a good start this season.”

The Eagles proved they are a healthy and more than capable of competing and winning.

“It’s a little too early to tell but we always are planning on contending for the MAC title and being a factor at the NCAA Championships,” Linn said.

Being so early in the season we will have to wait and see what teams are contenders to the MAC title and the NCAA Championship. The Eagle’s first competition is against Northwestern at 3 p.m. Oct. 21, at Jones Natatorium.

Women’s Swim and Dive

The Eastern Michigan Women’s swim team also had its Green and White meet on Saturday.

The Eagles have a lot of excitement coming into the season. Junior Briana Emig (free style distance) said “I am most excited about our upcoming success as a team. We (the women’s team) are small but strong this year. I think we are going to really surprise the other teams in our dual season and be a top contender for the MAC title at championships.”

The Eagles hope the excitement and determination is enough to be a driving force this season. The Eagles have a squad consisting of varsity record holders Amanda Kiefer and Briana Emig, as well as a strong group of freshmen, who should be contributors for the Eagles, as well.

The Eagles next meet is against Ohio at 1 p.m. Oct. 29 at Jones Natatorium.
