EMU win

That’s one rival down and one to go for Eastern Michigan University after winning against Central Michigan 35-28 on Saturday. The next opponent is the Eagles’ rival from Kalamazoo— the Western Michigan Broncos.

On Offense: The running game got the spark it needed when Javonti Greene returned from an injury on Saturday to record three touchdowns and post 96 yards on 19 carries. Dominique White also turned in an excellent performance with his 19 rushes for 161 yards.

QB Alex Gillett came up clutch with his 30 yard run to give EMU the win with 34 seconds left. Eastern Michigan ranks third in the Mid-American Conference in rushing offense and is now up to 15th in the country.

One thing about the EMU offense that needs to improve is the passing offense. However, it might not be an easy task to pass the ball against WMU since the Broncos are fourth in the MAC in pass defense.

On Defense: Eastern Michigan (4-3, 2-1 MAC) nearly fell apart in the second half against CMU after allowing the Chippewas to score 14 fourth-quarter points to tie the game with almost a minute left. Both touchdown passes came CMU’s quarterback Ryan Radcliff and Central made its two-point conversion. This shows the pass defense still needs some improvement and has to hold opponents down for all four quarters.

The numbers don’t lie and they say EMU is second to last in the conference in passing defense. The Eagles have allowed 16 passing touchdowns. However, WMU will have to look out for Brad Ohrman, EMU’s team leader in sacks (3) and Justin Cudworth, the team leader in tackles (52).
