Eagles defeat Huskies for second win

Following their first win of the season, the Eastern Michigan University women’s soccer team was looking to continue their success as they traveled to face the Northern Illinois Huskies in DeKalb Illinois.

Beginning the game each team came out strong, with the Eagles taking the first corner kick eight minutes into the game without a score. Most of the half would be controlled by the Huskies, as they out shot the Eagles 7-3 through much of the half.

Though the consistent shots and pressure from the Huskies wouldn’t last long, the Eagles found a way to break through, scoring the first goal of the game from forward, Chelsea Detrick. It was her first goal of the season.

Following the score, Detrick attempted to gain another goal by immediately firing another shot, which was saved following a Husky shot to end the first half with Eagles in control 1-0.

Beginning the second period, both teams attempted to gain a better position.

Midway through the second half, the Huskies took control out shooting EMU 3-1 in a 5 minute span, none of which found the back of the net.

Although much of the game was deadlocked, substitutions played a major factor as the Huskies substituted often and in bunches, looking to gain offense from the bench, while EMU only looked to maintain their lead.

Ending the second half, EMU applied their best offense, having Stephanie Clarke apply pressure with two corner kicks and a shot during the 80th minute to end the game, giving EMU their second win straight.

EMU (2-10-2) will travel to Kalamazoo to face Western Michigan this Sunday.
