Eagles Still Looking for First Win

With the season in full swing, Eastern Michigan University’s soccer team was looking for its first victory of the season, as it took on Bowling Green Friday night.

EMU began the game as the aggressor, taking the first two shots only one minute into the game.

With both teams needing a victory, each played a hard fought game.
Beginning in the eighth minute, more EMU pressure was applied as forward, Stephanie Clarke took the corner kick, that went wide, almost equaling a goal for EMU.

While much of the first half was controlled by EMU, which included outshooting BGSU 8-0 through a 15-minute-span

Mid-way through the first half , sophomore, midfielder Cara Cutaia found the back of the net from an assist from senior Amanda Marsh, to create Cara’s first goal of the season.

Looking to equalize, BGSU rebounded by ending the first half on a positive note, outshooting EMU 3-0 to conclude the first half.

Beginning the second half BGSU continued the pressure it applied through the end of the first half immediately taking two shots, none of which scored.

While the pressure continued, The Eagles, gathered their rthym once again, after a corner by BGSU during the 53rd minute, beginning with a close shot from Angela Vultaggio, followed by a shot from Cara Cutaia looking to get her second of the game, but to no avail.

With BGSU looking for a goal to tie, and EMU searching for a goal to separate the meargin, both teams substituted regularly, looking for a opening.

After several substitutions, a opening came, as BGSU tied the game 1-1 during the 59th minute from BGSU senior Alyssa Zuccaro, scoring her fifth goal of the season off an assist by Ivi Casagrande.

With a tied game, it became either teams win, as EMU searched for more offence from substitutions, while BGSU kept consistant offense, pressuring EMU with more shots, none of which scored.

With the game tied 1-1 EMU caught it’s second wind as more pressure was applied, late into the second half, looking to separate the score, taking the final six shots, all of which went wide to end the half, tied 1-1

Beginning Overtime BGSU came out strong to gain the advantage, scoring a early goal from BGSU forward Sidney Huth to take a 2-1 lead, beginning the third half.

With the early lead, BGSU never looked back to hand EMU their 10th loss of the season, following this loss, EMU (0-10-2) looks to get things back on track this Sunday as they take on Miami (OH) (6-5-0) at Scicluna Field.
