Cyber-security Awareness

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano will speak at the Michigan Cyber Summit hosted by Governor Snyder and Eastern Michigan University on Friday at the EMU Marriott Eagle Crest Hotel and Convention Center.

The event is the official kickoff of the National Cybersecurity Awareness month.

EMU helped assist in the planning and staging of the summit.

Washtenaw County Commissioner Kristen Judge played a key role in securing the event and bringing it to the university, according to a release.

“Eastern Michigan University has been a wonderful partner to the Washtenaw Cyber Coalition, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to welcome our federal and state partners here this week to highlight the important issue of online safety,” Judge said.

The event, which begins at 8 a.m. and runs to 3:30 p.m., will include other notable individuals such as
Congressman John Dingell.

The summit will also highlight several experts including EMU professor Skip Lawver.

Governor Snyder will provide a welcome at 8:50 a.m. and Secretary Napolitano is scheduled to speak at 8:55 a.m.

After introductory remarks, individuals will break out into a variety of panels including business, education, home users/families, law enforcement and government.
