Volleyball continues win streak

The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team has put up six consecutive wins after earning a 3-1 (25-12, 25-22, 20-25, 25-18) victory against Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

The Eagles went 3-0 at the IUPUI Hampton Inn Invitational, the best record out of all of the competing teams.

With the win against IUPUI the Eagles improve to 6-1. While the Jaguars fall to 2-6.

EMU was led by junior Rachel Iaquaniello, who recorded a double-double with 23 kills and 21 digs. Iaquaniello was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Senior setter Ashley Mason put up 46 assists that setup 11 kills from sophomore outside hitter Paige Roback. Freshman middle blocker Megan Crawshaw chipped in with a career-high seven kills.

The Eagle defense was led by junior middle blocker Kristen Baker, who had five blocks. Baker and Roback were both named to the IUPUI Hampton Inn Invitational All-Tournament team.

The Eagles dominated from the start of the opening set and held onto the reigns throughout the second set.

The third set, however, was another story as the Jaguars got off to an early 6-0 lead. They never looked back and took the 25-20 win.

An attack error by IUPUI’s Moriah Fair to open the fourth set gave the Eagles another early advantage. EMU took the early advantage and ran with it, taking the 25-18 win to close out the match.

EMU will suit up against the Penguins of Youngstown State at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, in Youngstown, Ohio.
