Volleyball advances to 12-2

The Eastern Michigan University Eagles made their record 12-2 by winning the Robert Morris Holiday Inn Volleyball Classic in Moon Township, Pa., Friday and Saturday.

The Eagles took on the Morgan State Bears in the first match and defeated the Bears 3-0 (25-18, 25-5, 25-12).

Paige Roback led the way for the Eagles with 11 kills. Kaitlyn Vincek also had a good match with a season-high eight kills. Rachel Iaquaniello and Erin Short each
contributed seven kills in the match.

Ashley Mason helped the Eagles to victory with a double-double having 33 assists and 10 digs. Haley Stein had a match-high 14 kills for the Eagles.

In the second match of the tournament the Eagles met with the Texas Pan-American Broncos and defeated them 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-18).

Mason tied her career high with eight kills and contributed 22 assists.

Iaquaniello had a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs.

Roback had six kills and four service aces. Stein had a match-high 17 aces.
In the last match of the day the Eagles took on host team Robert Morris. The Eagles defeated the Colonials 3-0 (25-10, 25-21, 25-19).

Baker had 11 kills, Iaquaniello had 13 kills, Roback had nine kills and Short contributed eight kills and six block assists. Mason had a match-high 33 assists.

Three players on the Eagles’ roster received honors at the tournament.

Roback was named the event’s Most Valuable Player, while Kristen Baker and Stein were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Eagles will prepare to open their Mid-American Conference season at 7 p.m. Sept. 23 when they take on the Broncos of Western Michigan in Kalamazoo.
