Runner grabs first out of 257

Junior Terefe Ejigu finished in first place Friday for the men’s cross country team in the Spartan Invitational in an 8,000-meter field with a time of 24:23 against 257 other runners. The Spartan Invitational is the second straight Invitational Ejigu has placed in first this season.

The next runner to follow Ejigu for the team was senior Austin Hendrix, who was 12th (24:52). Also finishing in the top 20 was senior Cole Sanseverino, placing with 25:00 for 15th place.

Sophomore Grzegorz Kalinowski was the fourth EMU runner to finish in the top 20, 18th in
25:05.

No scores were taken for the invitational held in East Lansing. There were no team winners and losers, only individual times.

Eastern coach John Goodridge said he was pleased with those who placed.

“We are a much better team than our first competition two weeks ago,” he said.
The Eagles will return to action at 4 p.m. Sept. 30. They will be participating in Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
