Roundup: Baseball loses to Kent State 4-2, 1-0

The Eastern Michigan University baseball team lost its first two games in a series with Kent State, 4-2 and 1-0.

Saturday both EMU and Kent State struggled for runs, thanks to outstanding pitching. The Golden Flashes scored the only run of the game in the fifth inning when Travis Shaw hit a ground out that brought home Derek Toadvine from third, after Toadvine stole second and third base.

In game one of the three-game set, the Eagles had a tough time getting base runners home despite seven hits.

Kent State pitcher Andrew Chafin gave up all seven hits but let up just one earned run – and one un-earned run – while striking out 13.

The Eagles’ Robert Wendzicki went eight innings for the Eagles and gave up a walk, 10 hits and allowed four runs.

The final game of the series was played at noon Sunday.
