The Eastern Michigan men’s basketball team posted a convincing 69-50 victory over the last-place Toledo on Saturday at the Convocation Center.
The Eagles started the game strong, going up 23-8.
Brandon Bowdry was a major reason for the hot start. In the first half Bowdry posted 17 points, going 6-of-7 from the field, 2-of-3 from beyond the arc and 3-of-3 from the free-throw line.
The second half saw a step up in physicality on Bowdry, eventually leading to an elbow Bowdry took to the face that went unnoticed by the officials. Bowdry was un-phased and finished the game, his last at the Convocation Center, with 27 points.
“You hate to see them (the seniors) go,” Ramsey said. “ Brandon (Bowdry) set himself apart. He’s second all-time in rebounds, and fourth all-time in scoring.”
Higgins finished his final game at the Convocation Center with four points, six assists and five rebounds.
Jamell Harris led the Eagles on the defensive side of the ball, posting five blocks on the day, and making it tough on anyone he was matched up against.
Anthony Wright led the Rockets with 15 points.
The Eagles finish their season fifth in the Mid-American Conference West Division, and they will be the No. 11 seed in the MAC Tournament.
“We have an opportunity to right a lot of wrongs starting Tuesday,” Ramsey said in regards to the MAC Tournament.
The tournament grants its first through fourth-place teams a bye In the first round, leaving Nos. 5-12 to fight it out on campus sites before heading to Cleveland for the rest of the tournament. The Eagles will take on No. 6 Akron Tuesday in Akron. The winner will head to Cleveland and the Quicken Loans Arena, where the Miami RedHawks are awaiting an opponent to face on Thursday.
