Oakland outswims visiting Eastern

Swimming

EMU men’s swimming and diving (1-2) couldn’t keep up with Oakland University on Saturday, losing a non-conference meet on the road, 184-116.

Troy Esentan finished first in the 200 breaststroke, coming in at 2:04.84, not far behind was teammate Michael Swain, coming in at 2:07.

Jacob Hanson ended the day with three second-place finishes, coming in the 200 back stroke and 200 IM, as well as the 100 backstroke.

Next up on the Men’s swimming schedule is the University of Michigan, Saturday, Jan. 15.

Women’s swimming made things close, but wasn’t able to top Oakland University (4-1) in its meet with the Golden Grizzlies, falling 151-149.

The Eagles (0-5) were ahead by 11 with just the 400 freestyle relay remaining. The Grizzlies placed 1-2 in the relay, snatching what could have been the Eagles’ first victory of the season.

Jacquelyn Swartz paced the Eagles with first-place finishes in the 200 butterfly (2:06), 200 IM (2:09) and the 100 fly (57.8).

Wrestling

EMU wrestling went 1-1 at the Spartan Duels at Michigan State. The Eagles dominated Lock Haven (Pa.) 34-6, and fell 19-15 in a close match with the Spartans.

Bus trouble caused Mott College to drop out, leaving the Eagles with just two matches on the day.

Aaron Sulzer (157 lbs) and David Wade ( heavyweight) both went 2-0 on the day.
