Student Development Conference teaches job-seeking techniques

The Eastern Michigan University chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America will host its 13th annual Student Development Conference at 9 a.m. Friday on the third floor of the Student Center.

The conference, entitled “It Only Takes One Spark,” is intended to help students develop job-seeking skills, resume writing and effective interview habits while providing an opportunity to meet professionals from businesses seeking interns from the EMU community.

“The development conference is a great opportunity for every student enrolled at Eastern,” said Kristen Coen, the event coordinator. “It will provide an opportunity to speak with professionals and learn about important skills and traits that are being sought out in the various job markets.”

“By attending the conference, all students have the ability to attend a resume critique and several workshops that can be applied to any career path or industry,” Coen said.

The workshops will be followed by a lunch provided by the PRSSA at 11:30 a.m. with keynote speaker Tim McIntyre, vice president of communications for Domino’s Pizza. An internship fair will begin at 1 p.m., giving attendees a chance to meet and present resumes to a number of organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, Eisbrenner Public Relations and Olympia Entertainment.

“The event will really give students a chance to enhance their opportunities for after college,” said Marietta Ford, secretary for the PRSSA. “Spark is the right way to describe it. It really does only take one spark.”
