Womens' teams get individual awards, new coaching staff

Eastern Michigan volleyball teammates Rachel Iaquaniello and Haley Stein have been honored with weekly Mid-American Conference (MAC) awards. Sophomore Ianquaniello was named offensive player of the week while averaging 4.53 kills, 4.3 points and 2.13 digs in 4 games. Haley Stein posted 27 digs in the upset of Michigan State, along with 3 service aces in 16 serves. The Eastern Michigan Volleyball team is second in the MAC with a 10-1 record, trailing only Northern Illinois (11-1).

Women’s Basketball coaching changes

Third Year assistant women’s basketball coach LaTonya Tate has been promoted to assistant head coach. Tate has worked with guards in her previous 2 seasons under head coach AnnMarie Gilbert. Most notably she coached Tavelyn James’s freshman season(2009-10) when James scored 426 points in 29 games.

Women’s basketball also added former head coach of Bolingbrook High School Anthony Smith. The former EMU student athlete will work as a scout and recruiter, as well as working with players in the post.

Look for a football game preview tomorrow on www.easternecho.com. The Eagles take on Central Michigan at Rynearson stadium. Eastern Michigan’s last victory came against central in the last game of the 2008 season.
