Entrepreneurship meeting coming to EMU

Eastern Michigan University’s College of Business will be hosting the Sesi Midwest Entrepreneurship Conference from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 12 at the Student Center.

Local entrepreneurs attending will share their success stories with aspiring entrepreneurs, students and faculty members.

A variety of accomplished individuals will be in attendance at the conference.

The keynote speaker will be Chris Holman, the publisher of the Greater Lansing Business Monthly and Small Business Advocate for the state of Michigan.

Holman graduated from EMU, and he will give tips on entrepreneurship and how students can get involved.

Tom Root, managing partner of Zingerman’s in Ann Arbor will also speak at the event.

Zingerman’s comprises companies involved in the food industry in the Ann Arbor area.

Attendees of the conference can expect a number of sessions held by local business owners.

David Merritt, owner of IMU T-Shirts, will hold a session. Merritt founded his company upon graduation from the University of Michigan.

A press release available to the campus community said IMU T-Shirts is an “apparel brand that plans to innovatively change the face of fashion by building its foundation on a socially-conscious platform.”

Katherine Hilboldt Farrell, owner of Katherine’s Catering, will speak about how she “catered her way to success.” Farrell has worked in the catering business for more than 25 years.

Nick Pagano will also give a breakout session. Pagano is director of YTB, a public company in the travel and tourism industry, and he will give a discussion entitled “Multiple Streams of Revenue.”

Pagano also co-authored the book “The Morality of Money.”

Joe Venuto, an EMU graduate, will discuss “Entrepreneurship: Going into Business for Yourself.”

Venuto was awarded the Wall Street Journal 2007 Achievement Award for exceptional students, and he has started several businesses.

The event is free, but registration is required to attend.
