Curtis Vollmar was fourth at the Mid-American Conference championships Saturday in Athens, Ohio, and helped Eastern Michigan University’s cross country team to a second-place finish.
Vollmar (25:57.5) was the fastest runner for EMU (55 points). Kent State (30) won the race and was led by the best individual in Aiman Scullion (25:32.7).
“Kent State is very deserving of this year’s MAC title,” coach John Goodridge said in a release. “That being said, I remain very proud of my team in how they have developed and how hard they raced(Saturday).”
Courtney Calka (22:35.6) led the EMU women’s team in its portion of the event. She placed sixth as an individual, and the team finished sixth, too, with 157 points.
Miami (44) was the top women’s team, and Toledo’s Ari Fisher (22:18.8) was the fastest individual.
“I am pleased that (EMU) put themselves in good position early on and continued to battle throughout the race,” coach Sue Parks said in a release.
“Our goal was to go into this meet with a championship attitude, and I feel that our team did a great job of getting out hard and racing up towards the front early in the race.”
