I was pleased to read that an assembly plant in Wixom is reopening its doors to produce solar panels and energy efficient products (‘Green is the new gold’ in Michigan, Detroit Free Press, 10/11/2009).
Wixom’s assembly plant is a good first step towards addressing Michigan’s outrageous unemployment rate. However, if we want to put the rest of Michigan back to work, we need comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation that creates more opportunities to advance this industry in the state.
The bottom line is Michigan needs thousands of new jobs and comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation can deliver on this promise. ?Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow have the opportunity to make Michigan a leader in clean energy and revitalize our state’s economy by passing the Clean Energy and American Power Act.
I urge them to see it through.
