As an individual, Eastern Michigan’s Curtis Vollmar placed fifth (24:19) Friday at the Michigan Intercollegiate in Grand Rapids. He led his team to a third-place finish (66 points).
“We completed another good training cycle and again made good team progress in our race (Friday),” EMU coach John Goodridge said in a release. “There had been a steady downpour the entire day and during the race so the course was quite a muddy quagmire.”
Michigan (32) won the race, and Grand Valley State (55) was second. U-M’s Peter Christmas (25:08) was the top individual.
Soccer splits
The EMU soccer team lost 1-0 to Miami (Ohio) on Friday and won 2-1 over Ball State on Sunday. Both games were played at Scicluna Field.
Ashley Rodrigues had both goals for Eastern (7-3-4, 3-1-2 Mid-American Conference). She leads the team with 13 points (six goals, one assist).
Volleyball loses 2
Eastern’s volleyball team lost two road matches over the weekend. It was defeated by Western Michigan (3-1) and Northern Illinois (3-2).
The Eagles (3-19, 2-4) next play in matches at Bowling Green on Friday and at Miami (Ohio) on Saturday. Their next home matches are against Akron on Oct. 23 and Buffalo on Oct. 24.
