Roundup: Eastern soccer sweeps weekend

Eastern Michigan University’s soccer team won two Mid-American Conference games to start its four-game home stand at Scicluna Field over the weekend.

The Eagles (6-2-4, 2-0-2) defeated the University of Buffalo (1-10-1, 0-3-1) 2-0 on Friday. Maggie Manville had a five-save shutout. Chelsea Detrick and Amanda Marsh each scored in the second half. Maggie Christensen, Stephanie Janssens and Carissa Wilson all recorded assists.

Eastern continued its winning ways Sunday with a 1-0 victory over Kent State (6-5-0, 2-2-0). Monique Budani, the other EMU keeper in the rotation, had a nine-save shutout, which was the team’s seventh. Detrick scored the lone goal.

Cross country teams 3rd, 4th
Both the EMU men’s and women’s cross country teams had solid showings at the Notre Dame meet Friday in South Bend, Ind.

The men placed third with 93 points, and the women placed fourth with 160 points.

Curtis Vollmar finished the race second with a time of 24:40. Courtney Calka finished sixth in 17:56.
