Symphony Orchestra plays Brahms, Wagner in final show of semester

The Eastern Michigan University Symphony Orchestra performed two pieces Friday night Richard Wagners The Flying Dutchman Overture and Johannes Brahms Symphony No.3.The Flying Dutchman Overture started with the sound of flowing waves exemplified by downward chromatics from the orchestra and dramatic timpani rolls.

Graduate recital offers impressive skill, variety

Michael Hejka performed his graduate percussion recital Friday for an overwhelming audience of family members and friends.Five pieces were performed featuring Hejka on marimba and vibraphone. Some guest artists included William Marr on the euphonium Brad Bower and John Nipper on the marimba and crotales and Teddy Roberts Jeff Brooks and professor John Dorsey on multi-percussion.

The auditorium in Alexander Hall featured an evening of percussion music Wednesday. A few of the pieces played were J.S. Bachs Suite in E Minor for Lute which was played as a marimba solo with four mallets by Cary Kocher and J.S. Bachs Suite No.1 for Solo Cello as a two-mallet solo played by Julie Glick. Many of the same performers can be heard 730 p.m. Monday in Pease Auditorium.

Fourteen members of Eastern Michigan Universitys faculty performed a Faculty Recital Thursday at Pease Auditorium.The concert featured a variety of instruments including cello trumpet organ and the lesser-known theorbo an instrument much like a guitar but with more strings.

She started out playing the piano but switched to the saxophone when she discovered she had a passion for it.

The Eastern Michigan University Symphony Orchestra concert on Friday featured music composed by an EMU professor and two other equally impressive pieces.The band performed three songs in total Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra Dancing on Vesuvius and Symphony No. 5. The concert was fantastic junior engineering major Robert Drumm said. Ive been playing percussion since middle school but Ive never heard music this amazing before.
