Some people believe that animated movies are just for children, however this Eastern Michigan University student feels otherwise.
The Disney Club at EMU will be hosting a Disney DIY event on Nov. 13 in the Halle Library and will be collecting a $5 entry fee at the door, Sarah Zimmer, president of the Disney Club at EMU, said. As well as a Disney karaoke competition the following week on Nov. 19 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m at the student center in ballroom 300, she said.
Zimmer is a senior at EMU who believes that everyone is a kid at heart, and founded the Disney Club a little over a year ago. Since the COVID-19 pandemic had stopped in-person events last year, Zimmer felt the need to throw safe club events this semester.
“The DIY is an arts and crafts event for people to come in and make your own Mickey Mouse headbands,” Zimmer said. “I kept reading on the internet that Disney karaoke isn’t a real thing and people were bummed about it, so why not try to do it and get it approved here?”
Due to COVID restrictions, the karaoke event is at a maximum capacity of 50-55 participants, Zimmer said. It also will be free of charge to participate that day. If students are interested, they can contact Disney Club Secretary Zeinab Farhat at zfarhat1@emich.edu to set up the two Disney songs they would like to sing.
Flyers for the Disney DIY event will be posted throughout various buildings around campus this week with more information regarding what time the event will take place.
There are about 200 members of the EMU Disney Club, Zimmer said. Those interested in joining must have completed at least one year at EMU, she said.
