Former EMU student wins dream job as TV20 Detroit host

When Jessica Lundy attended Eastern Michigan University as a communications major with a minor in entrepreneurship, she knew that she wanted to end up on your television screen.

In December, WMYD held an open casting call for a hosting position at the Detroit Marriot inside the Renaissance Center. About 1,200 people auditioned and Lundy won the contest and full-time job as the host and on-air personality representing TV20 and TV20Detroit.com.

“I've always wanted to be a TV host my entire life. I even came up with the name ‘Just Jessica’ because I wanted to be on TV and still get to be true to myself and teach others how to do the same,” said Lundy.

From Lundy’s experience, her communications classes that she took at EMU were helpful, but the marketing classes helped her to learn how to see herself as a brand.

“Communicating with people has always been a strength of mine. I have a big personality and I love helping people,” she said.

Lundy has lived in the Ann Arbor area her entire life and a year ago she created her own TV show "Visit ASquare" that featured businesses in the Ann Arbor area. The show aired on Community Television Network (CTN) Ann Arbor.

CTN is a program that provides the community with multiple resources in the television industry.

“I've also traveled the country as an Auto Show Product Specialist/Narrator for 3 years, that really gave me the confidence to become a TV host,” Lundy said.

Her new roll began the week of Jan. 11 and she has been loving it every since.

“I love that there is something new and exciting happening at the studio everyday. I have a fantastic team that's really hands on in helping me in stepping into my new role. I love watching our TV programs and interacting with the fans that are watching it as well,” she said.

She also has a new weekly segment on the news called "In and Around the D" that showcases the hottest events in town.

“I would love to be a Morning News Anchor on TV20 Detroit. We have a great team and I would love to be apart of the best morning show on television. Also, I've always dreamed of becoming a TV host for E! News,” said Lundy.

“Always stay focused on your dreams and never let anyone stop you. Embrace internships and opportunities that present themselves to you even if it's unpaid because it will pay off in the long run. Remember that you can always create your own opportunities and do what makes you happy,” Lundy said.
