COB dedicates classroom to distinguished alum

The Eastern Michigan College of Business honored Regent Jim Webb and his wife Cathy Webb Wednesday. A classroom was named for the Webbs in recognition of their outstanding service to the COB as Eastern Michigan Alumni.

Faculty, students and administrators gathered together to honor the service and commitment the Webbs have devoted to Eastern Michigan University. Michael Tidwell, Dean of the College of Business, wanted to honor their “contributions and loyalty,” which have included postponing vacations to speak to students and being chairman of the EMU Board of Trustees from 2014 to 2015.

Jim Webb received his A.A. in Business Administration from College of the Sequoias in 1968, a B.B.A. in Management from Eastern Michigan University in 1971, and his M.B.A. in Finance from EMU in 1976. Aside from his day-to-day jobs he was and still is an active member in the EMU Community. In 1988 he received the Alumnus Achievement Award. Now he sits on EMU's Board of Regents, appointed by Governor Rick Snyder. His term ends in 2020.

Cathy Webb, also an EMU alumnus, received her degree in Political Science in 1997. She worked for fourteen years on the Farmington Hills School Board. She, with her husband, has remained active members of the EMU community.

“My experiences, and my husband’s respect and love for EMU, and his passion to serve are why we both love to stay a part of the EMU community,” Cathy Webb said in a statement.

The classroom can be found on the ground floor of the College of Business, room 219. Jim and Cathy Webb are entering the ranks of some fifty other honorary classrooms in the College of Business. Plaques aside from these classrooms are of Businesses and Alumni that have had a contribution to the Eastern Michigan community.

Cathy Webb says that they are “proud to officially be part of this building.”
